Bruxism is a disorder, namely the clenching and grinding of the teeth, with the main cause being high levels of stress. It can be done during the day or at night.
The symptoms of bruxism can be pain in the joint or muscles, headache, limitation in opening the mouth or even sounds (clicking) when trying to open the mouth.
The snoring splint is therefore a hard acrylic construction that can be used during the day but especially at night. It is placed either in the upper jaw or the lower jaw. It prevents the teeth from coming together with the ultimate purpose of reducing the pressures between the teeth and relaxing the muscles. As a result this will act as a preventive measure for sensitivities, mobility, fractures and tooth decay.
The patient will need two appointments, one for the dentist to take impressions of the teeth and the second appointment for the arrangements (if needed) and delivery. Followed by a recheck after 2 weeks (or as long as needed) to make sure the dentist is making proper contact between the teeth and the brace.
